Being a mother to three beautiful Bi-racial children, I always try to teach them how they do indeed have the Best of two worlds.

My Bi-racial children are aware already at their young ages of how special they really are. Since my children were at an age where they can understand, they were informed that, although their skin may be light, they are black. They were also taught that being black is their race, however, they are Jewish as well. Be it a controversial matter of religion and race, I choose not to consider my children white.
Jewish people in history have had many trials and tribulations to overcome. Black people in history have had many trials and tribulations to overcome. Both of these races/religions face racism and antisemitism every day.
A black child has and will continue to have obstacles going against them for their lifetime , since it seems as if times are not changing anytime soon. On the other hand, Jewish people face obstacles as well, only in a different form. Now take the children that are Bi-racial, being Black and Jewish......
These are what my children are. I do not look at people as "people are people because race/religion dose not matter". Wouldn't that be the perfect world but it is not reality. I do not drive my children crazy with the situation, but I do sit with them and explain how different they may be treated, how different they may look. I also explain to them, how they absolutely have the best of both worlds. Both sides of my children's ancestors have faced many hard times. It is something to be so proud of and something to study making sure that history will never repeat itself. The Jewish religion, for the most part have some of the most brilliant people. Black people as well make up a brilliant part of society. In my opinion, my children have what it takes to change this world.
All the little Bi-racial Butterflies should see what amazingly beautiful people they are and with these children who will soon be adults.....maybe the world can be a pleasantly mixed up beautiful place to be.

Racialicious points us toward the ever-illuminating Freakonomics blog, which excerpts a study that breaks down the behavior, looks, and academic prowess of people of mixed race, specifically those who have one black parent and one white parent. Here are the results:

In a recent paper I [Steven D. Levitt] co-authored with Roland Fryer, Lisa Kahn, and Jorg Spenkuch, we look at data to try to answer that question. Here is what we find:

1) Mixed-race kids grow up in households that are similar along many dimensions to those in which black children grow up: similar incomes, the father is much less likely to be around than in white households, etc.

2) In terms of academic performance, mixed-race kids fall in between blacks and whites.

3) Mixed-race kids do have one advantage over white and black kids: the mixed-race kids are much more attractive on average.

The really interesting result, though, is the next one.

4) There are some bad adolescent behaviors that whites do more than blacks (like drinking and smoking), and there are other bad adolescent behaviors that blacks do more than whites (watching TV, fighting, getting sexually transmitted diseases). Mixed-race kids manage to be as bad as whites on the white behaviors and as bad as blacks on the black behaviors. Mixed-race kids act out in almost every way measured in the data.
